About The Thirst Project

"Because water is a human right." -Seth Maxwell, Founder of The Thirst Project.

We chose the Thirst Project because of its efforts to help people around the world. More than 2.2 billion people die a year from waterborne diseases.

The Thirst Project is assisting people all over the world in obtaining clean drinking water in hopes to help resolve the issue. From selling water bottles to raise money, to building wells for impoverished communities all over the world.

With the help of students and volunteers all over the country, the project is reaching new heights everyday.

The Thirst Project began with eight undergraduate students in Los Angeles, California raising awareness by handing out water bottles on Hollywood Boulevard.  They gathered the only money they had at the time, $70 as a group, to buy 1,000 water bottles to hand out at no cost.

Their initial purpose was to use the water bottles to be able to start conversation with people and inform them about the global water crisis.  They quickly turned $70 into $1700. They used that money to build their first fresh water well. With little expectation their project took to word of mouth quickly by speaking to middle schools and high schools all over the country.

After only 5 years The Thirst Project has raised over $8 million towards the global water crisis providing over 300,000 people with clean water. "Our goal with the thirst project is to provide safe, clean water and sanitation to the entire nation of Swaziland by 2022." Said Seth Maxwell, founder of The Thirst Project.
